Daniil Medvedev reaches the second round of the Australian Open after beating Henri Laaksonen on Tuesday.

The Russian champion, Daniil Medvedev has made his mark to the second round of Australia open as the player thrashes Switzerland Henri Laaksonen on Tuesday. World’s no. 2 ranking player, Daniil Medvedev is looking to grab Grand Slams titles back to back after winning previous year’s US Open.

The 25-year-old breezes off Henri Laaksonen 6-1,6-4,7-6 (7/3) in 1 hour and 54 minutes on the Rod Laver Arena.

He said that he tried to win the third set and thought he’ll wait for a tiebreaker but it managed to work out and he is really happy about it. Daniil drops his opening service game against Laaksonen but takes off the next six games in the first set. When Henri Laaksonen currently ranked 92, held the service in the opening of the second set, the crowd started cheering loudly.

Laaksonen looked more aggressive in the second set, but couldn’t withstand the groundstrokes of Daniil Medvedev.
