The number one seed Ashleigh Barty advanced into the Australian Open third round on Wednesday with another powerful performance, burning out little energy to put Lucia Bronzetti out of the Grand Slam.
The world number one was having a rough patch early in the season but was then very much focused on Rod Laver Arena in the second round of the Australian Open after she blew away the Italian (6-1,6-1) in a match that just lasted for 52 minutes.
Barty started her campaign fighting for her first Australian Open title in an assertive way on Monday, Defeating Lesia Tsurenko (6-0, 6-1) which went on for 54 minutes.
Her serve is unplayable all year. She is now on a winning streak of six matches in the 2022 season after registering the title at Adelaide International and has not dropped a service game for five straight matches.
The current Wimbledon Champion Barty has been on the top of the rankings for 111 consecutive weeks and the 23-year-old Italian who ranked 142 in her First major Grand Slam, never had a chance to seal the match.
The Italian only hit one winner in the opening five games before finally registering a point with a service hold, in the set which lasted for 26 minutes. Bronzetti started the second set on a good note but was broken in her second service of the game and the set turned out to be a replica of the first set from thereon.
The number one seed will face a skilled 30th seed, Camila Giorgi another Italian who awaits her after she defeated Tereza Martincova 6-2, 7-6 (7/2).
