Australian Open: Ashleigh Barty knocks out Amanda to advance to the quarters of the Grand Slam

Amanda had previously knocked out reigning champion Naomi Osaka. Ash Barty will now face Jessica Pegula on 25th for the place into semis.

Day 7 of the tournament saw many top-seeded players fighting each other in the Round of 4 where World No. One Ashleigh Barty popularly known as Ash Barty knocked out America’s Amanda Anisimova 6-4 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne to reach her back to back fourth quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Amanda had previously knocked out reigning champion Naomi Osaka before clashing out with the Australian. The last time Barty and Amanda faced each other was in the Roland Garros tournament semifinals in 2019 where top-seeded from Australia had won the French Open title.

“I think the most important is that I just try to be me, I just continue to be me,” said Barty in an Australian Open interview post-match. She further told via interview that’s what she is and that’s who she wants to be, while the crowd was cheering her up.

The 2021 Women’s Singles Wimbledon champion will now face Jessica Pegula on January 25th to defend her spot at the semis of the first Grand Slam of the year. The last time they both faced each other was in French Open’s first round in the year 2019.

Pegula eliminated Maria Sakkari today at the Margaret Court Arena to book her spot into the quarters.
