Australian Open: Ashleigh Barty defeats Danielle Collins to win the Grand Slam title at home

With the trophy, Barty becomes the first woman from Australia to win the Grand Slam title in Melbourne in women’s singles since 1978.

Ash Barty has shown the world why she is No. 1. The Australian has defeated Danielle Collins 6-3, 7-6(2) to win the Grand Slam title at home ground.

Barty had gone through Madison Key in the semifinals where she defeated the American easily to advance to the final.

With the trophy, Barty becomes the first woman from Australia to win the Grand Slam title in Melbourne in women’s singles since 1978.

Collins, coming back from health issues had a brilliant season since the previous year. The American professional expressed her admiration for Barty and said in a post-match interview with the Australian Open, “I really admire you, as the player that you are.”

World No. 1 also in reply had some respectful words for the 2022 Australian Open runner-up and said, “I know that you will be fighting for many more of these in the future.” The 2021 Wimbledon champion are easily expected to win the title judging on her unstoppable power and serves.

In Men’s Singles Final, Spain’s Rafael Nadal will be facing World No. 2, Daniil Medvedev of Russia to defend his 21st Grand Slam title, the trophy which will be a record for the Spaniard to become the only man in Men’s Singles with 21 Grand Slams surpassing rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The final will be played tomorrow at 2:00 pm IST and will be telecasted on Sony Six channel. The match can be seen live by Indian fans on Sony LIV and Jio TV.
