After a 24-year career, Roger Federer recently announced his retirement from tennis, stating that the 2022 Laver Cup would be his final competition. One of the greatest rivalries also ends with Federer’s retirement, but not before one last match.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will play in an exhibition match at the Santiago Bernabeu as part of Real Madrid’s plans. The tournament would be held in front of 80,000 spectators in the recently renovated stadium, more than double the previous high for a tennis match. Although there is no specific date for the exhibition, more details are anticipated to be revealed following the Laver Cup at the London O2 Arena.
Federer and Nadal will temporarily put their rivalry aside to work together as Team Europe at the Laver Cup.
Six of the top tennis players from Europe compete against six stars from across the World, including Frances Tiafoe, the rising American star, throughout the course of the three-day tournament. The Laver Cup begins on September 23 and Novak Djokovic will also compete for Team Europe along with Andy Murray. The Big Four will be seen together.
