Alexander Zverev calls Carlos Alcaraz ‘best player in the world’

The Spanish professional beat Zverev from Germany to win his fourth ATP title of the year at Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz has been shining since the start of the 2022 tennis season. The newly turned 19-year-old from Spain has just won his fourth ATP title of the year beating No. 3 player Alexander Zverev at the final of the Mutua Madrid Open 2022.

Zverev was not the only top seed that got beaten by him. Alcaraz hammered several quality players this season including two of the Big Three players. The No. 9 ATP rank outlasted his idol, Rafael Nadal, in the quarterfinals before he beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in their first meet to become the only player to beat both of them back to back on clay at a young age. The player defeated three top-ranked players back to back to clinch the trophy in the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, Zverev had some motivational words for the emerging star of Spain. The German professional said, “Right now, you are the best player in the world,” reported Tennis TV in a post-match interview. He further said to Alcaraz that Spaniard has the capabilities to win many Grand Slams and at the tournament many more times.

Carlos Alcaraz has so far won Rio Open, Miami Open, Barcelona Open and now a trophy at Madrid Open. He also reached the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters before losing to 21-times Grand Slam champion Nadal.
