Alexander Zverev finally registered his first victory against the former world number 1, at the Indian wells tournament. The duo met in the third round of the tournament. In the previous three meetings, the British player had the better of his German counterpart who came into this match looking for some salvation. In the end, Zverev walked away with two straight-set wins by 6-4 and 7-6 (4).
The was a very interesting one. 3 sets into the first round, Zverev was trailing 3-0. He did not look to be in his best form from the get going, however, he found his strides in the fourth set to turn things around. He won the next 6 games out of the 7 the duo played, to win the first set. The story of the second set too was very similar, Murray got an early lead over Zverev, making him battle hard to earn each point. Despite needing a lengthy break for changing his shoes, as the laces of his former shoes snapped, Zverev made a hefty come back to turn the tides around in his favor. The German had the chance to win the game, but he missed an overhead shot at 6-5 to send the game into a tie-breaker. Murray sent a shot wide at match point to gift Zverev his first win against him.
