18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz wins his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy

The Spaniard defeated Casper Ruud to win his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Miami, the youngest to do so.

Carlos Alcaraz has won his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami defeating Casper Ruud 7-4, 6-4. The Spaniard has extended his win-loss record to 18-2 this tennis season.

Alcaraz had defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals of the event in Florida and with the trophy, he becomes the youngest player to have won a title at the Miami Open tournament breaking Novak Djokovic’s record of 2007 and third-youngest to clinch a Masters 1000. “It’s too early to describe how I feel. But it’s so special to win my first Masters 1000 in Miami,” said Alcaraz after winning the title, reported Jose Morgado.

Alcaraz with the victory, gain (5+) to reach the No. 11 on the ATP rankings. The 18-year-old emerging tennis star of Spain was surprised by his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero whose father expired ahead of the tournament. The coach appeared at the final and was in tears as he and Alcaraz celebrate this new milestone.
