Aston Villa Women defeated West Ham United Women 1-2 at home thanks to goals in each half for the visitors. As Villa took control of the match, Rachel Daly, who spent half a season on loan with West Ham in 2020, put the away side in front with a long-range strike 34 minutes before Jordan Nobbs added a second from close range just after the hour mark.
Viviane Asseyi scored a well-taken header despite being adjudged offside to halve the deficit. The hosts increased their intensity in the closing stages to force an equalizer. After an initial fumble, Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton could punch the ball clear after battling through a crowd of bodies in the 96th minute. Villa earned all three points despite all the late efforts by the host.
This was the third meeting between the two teams this season, two weeks after Villa narrowly defeated the Hammers in a penalty shootout in Dagenham to advance to the FA Cup Final.
