In the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match between Real Madrid and Liverpool, Vinicius Junior once again proved to be a thorn in the side of the English side. The young Brazilian forward scored two goals in the game, bringing his total number of European goals against Liverpool to five, making him the player with the most goals against Liverpool in European competition.
Vinicius Junior’s first goal of the night came in the 21st minute, when he pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired it past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker. His second goal was even more impressive.
Vinicius Junior’s performance against Liverpool in the first leg of the round of 16 has put Real Madrid in a strong position to progress to the quarter-finals. The Spanish giants will travel to Anfield for the second leg with a two-goal advantage and will be confident of advancing to the next round.
For Liverpool, the defeat is a setback in their quest to win the Champions League for the seventh time. Jurgen Klopp’s side will need to produce a much-improved performance in the second leg if they are to overcome the deficit and advance to the quarter-finals.
