Valencia always looked the more dominant team throughout the match but Madrid’s old warriors know how to win matches, even under duress. There was a penalty appeal during the first half for Valencia but VAR had declared it as not a penalty and let the play go on.

Half time ended with no goals but with Valencia out playing the Los Blancos. During the second half, Valencia got close when Goncalo Guedes received a pass on the edge of the box and tried but the ball was missed by a whisker over the crossbar. Valencia got first blood when Hugo Duro scored the first goal from a rebound during the 66th minute. Madrid was down but never out with the players they had at their disposal. In the next minute, Casemiro who was not at his best was replaced by new signing 18-year-old Eduardo Camavinga and that changed the game. Camavinga showed class far beyond his age and Madrid got a semblance of control in the match.

Vinicius Jr. scored the equaliser for Madrid as he took advantage of Karim Benzema’s deflected shot to slot past helpless goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili during the 86th minute. The same man gave a lofted ball a minute before the end of regulation time for Benzema to head it into the left side of the net. Madrid ended up 1-2 winners as the old warriors Benzema, Modric contributed to the win. They are now top of the table and are two points in front of Atletico Madrid.
