Victor Lindelof is the new captain of Sweden National Football team

Sweden National team of football has changed its captain. Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has been named captain by the Sweden manager Janne Andersson on Wednesday.

The 27-year old Manchester United defender has been named captain of Sweden on Wednesday. Sweden manager Janne Anderson has decided to take over the captain’s armband from Andreas Granqvist and give it to Victor Lindelof. Victor after being named captain of Sweden is very happy and he finds a greater responsibility to wear his country’s armband.

“It is a very great honour but also a great responsibility. When I was growing up, I dreamed, just like all other young footballers, of playing for Sweden,” Lindelof said during his training in Scotland, as per svenskfotboll.se.

“I hope to be able to lead with my game on the field but also contribute with the routine I have. We have several very good young players who have joined the team,” he added.

The Swedish defender performed very well for Sweden in the Euro 2020 Cup as well as in the English Premier League for Manchester United last season.  In the Euro Cup 2020, Sweden topped their group with 7 points and didn’t lose a single game in the group stage. Sweden’s defending was so good that they only conceded 2 goals in 3 matches in the UEFA Euro 2020 group stage. Sweden lost to Ukraine 2-1 in the round of 16, because of which they couldn’t go forward in the tournament. But, their amazing defending was discussed everywhere. Victor did start in every match of Euro 2020 for Sweden. He was one of their main first-team centre-backs throughout the tournament.

Victor also helped his club Manchester United in reaching the Europa League final. But unfortunately, they lost it to Villarreal in the penalties. Janne Anderson sees potential in the 27-year old, that’s why he has made him captain of the Sweden football team.
