José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Rangers in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie. The Scottish side dominated the match at Ibrox, putting themselves in a strong position for the return leg in Istanbul.
Rangers took control early on, pressing high and exploiting gaps in Fenerbahçe’s defense. Their attacking intent paid off as they opened the scoring in the first half, with the home side dictating the tempo. Mourinho’s team struggled to impose themselves, failing to control midfield battles and looking shaky at the back.
Despite a brief resurgence that saw Fenerbahçe pull a goal back, Rangers responded strongly, adding two more goals to seal a commanding victory. The result leaves Mourinho’s side with a mountain to climb in the second leg if they are to keep their European dreams alive.
