Thomas Tuchel gets outcome he expected in Chelsea’s scintillating 6-0 win

The Blues bounced back from a disappointing defeat against Brentford and Real Madrid with a scintillating 6-0 win over Southampton.

Chelsea returned to form with a 6-0 Premier League triumph over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, thanks to two goals each from Timo Werner and Mason Mount, as well as goals from Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz in the first half.

Chelsea took the lead in the eighth minute when Alonso pounced on a clever flick from Mount and smashed home his first league goal since the start of the season. After Southampton’s fragile defence failed to deal with Ruben Loftus-cross, Cheek’s Mount, Chelsea’s top scorer in the league this season, equalled his tally of nine goals from the previous campaign with a fantastic strike from outside the box. Southampton’s demise continued as Werner made amends for his earlier errors by outpacing Jan Bednarek, turning Fraser Forster, and finishing into an empty net. After Werner hit the post again, Havertz swept in Chelsea’s fourth goal. After the half, a tenacious Chelsea was rewarded when Werner knocked in a rebound from N’Golo Kante’s shot, which had been saved by Forster. In the 54th minute, Mount sealed the rout with another straightforward finish.

It was the perfect comeback for the European champions, who were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the opening leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday after being thrashed 4-1 by Brentford last weekend following the international break.
