Argentina’s national football team has reached the Semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after they defeated the Netherlands on Friday night in the quarter-finals. The game was ended by a penalty shootout. The Netherlands scored two late goals to take the game to extra time and penalties as well.
Despite Argentina being in the Semifinals of the competition but their captain Lionel Messi wasn’t impressed with the referee. Antonio Mateu Lahoz was the match referee for the quarter-final game between Argentina and Netherlands on Friday night. Lionel Messi felt that the referee was not up to the mark and wasn’t giving good decisions.
The referee Mateu Lahoz gave 17 yellow cards which is a record now for the most yellow cards in a World Cup knockout game. Lionel Messi was named Man of the match after the game as he recorded one goal and an assist. After he received the trophy, he made this comment to the match referee.
“FIFA has to review that, the Referee is not up to par. They cannot put a referee like that in again,” said Lionel Messi via TyC Sports.
Argentina will now play against Croatia in the semifinals on Tuesday.
