Elland Road saw a dramatic game as United went up 2-0 in the first 45 minutes, courtesy of Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. Rodrigo pulled one back home in the 53rd minute, and within no time, Leeds’s leading goal scorer, Raphinha, slotted home the second goal to equalize.
As they were nearing the 70th minute, Rangnick made personnel changes. Anthony Elanga and Fred were brought on for Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, and this move changed the course of the game. 3 minutes after coming on, Fred gave United the lead with a thundering left-footed goal from inside the box. Elanga’s 88th-minute goal put the game to bed and United went home with all three points.
As United players were celebrating, in front of the Leeds fans, after Fred gave them the lead in the 70th minute, Elanga peculiarly went down as an object was thrown at him. After a quick check, the medical staff cleared him to play the rest of the game.
Elanga got back at the fans by scoring United’s fourth goal and celebrating in front of them. He shushed the fans as he ran behind the goal to celebrate with his teammates. This enraged the fans and Leeds players.
Later on, Leeds left-back, Junior Firpo, went in on Elanga with a harsh challenge which led to some pushing around amongst the two sets of players.
However, United shared the last laugh as they took all three points and went up to 4th in the league table while Leeds are struggling in the bottom half with barely any wins.
