Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, England boss Gareth Southgate, and senior Three Lions men have all stepped out in support of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire after he had been booed at Wembley Stadium.
The Manchester United Captain Harry Maguire was booed and mocked by the spectators as England defeated Ivory Coast 3-0 in a friendly. Maguire has been ridiculed for his displays for United this term, however, the 29-year-old was a pivotal figure in England’s Euro 2020 campaign, which concluded in a setback to Italy in the final last summer.
England manager Southgate expressed his displeasure with Maguire’s reception calling out the fans for the mistreatment and mob mentality. He also defended Maguire on his performance for England as he believes he has been phenomenal.
Jordan Henderson, a Liverpool midfielder, also has criticized England fans that booed Harry Maguire in Wembley on Tuesday night and Henderson reckons England supporters should recognize Maguire’s service to the squad. Manchester City star Jack Grealish, meanwhile, characterized the move to boo Maguire as “ridiculous.” Harry Kane and Declan Rice also came forward to encourage the player.
To voice their support for Maguire, Tottenham wrote, “No player deserves abuse. We stand with you. ”
