“Suddenly, he put me on the bench,” Richarlison blasts Conte after Spurs’ Champions League exit

Despite signing for £60 million, Richarlison has not received enough playing time since moving to Tottenham.

In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil following the game, Richarlison expressed frustration with how he started as a substitution during Tottenham’s game against AC Milan.

Criticizing his manager, the Brazilian said, “it was going well, in a good sequence, two wins against West Ham and Chelsea,” he said. “Suddenly, he put me on the bench. Then, against Wolverhampton, Conte put me on for five minutes. I asked why, but he didn’t tell me anything.

“And, yesterday, he asked me to take a test at the gym, that if I were good, I would go to the game and left me on the bench at the time. These are things that it is not possible to understand.

“Let’s see what he will say tomorrow, but there are no fools here either. I’m a professional, work daily, and want to play.”

Richarlison came on as a substitute with 20 minutes remaining, with Spurs needing a goal to force extra time but could not make a difference. In his 25 appearances, the Brazilian striker has averaged just under 45 minutes, scoring just two goals in that time across all competitions.

Spurs failed to score over two legs against AC Milan and lost 1-0 on aggregate in round 16 of the Champions league.
