Spain snaps Italy’s undefeated run & advances to the UEFA Nations League finals

Spain defeats Italy by 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League to advance to the finals. The EURO 2020 champions suffered their first competitive defeat on home soil since September 1999.

Italy was dominated by the young and upcoming Spain, who plays the game of football in the right way. They share the ball move off the ball, and are well-coached and disciplined by Luis Enrique. Spain from the start came with more energy, they kept attacking the great defence of Italy and were able to get through in no time as Ferran Torres scored the first goal at the 16th-minute mark, a well-placed cross by Oyarzabal and a lucky finish from Torres puts Spain 1-0 up.

Italy was missing their star scorer Ciro is injured and is the duo of Matteo and Rafael and Leonardo Spinazzola also took a major blowback during the EURO, as they miss a wide-open goal from a cross from Chiesa and a big miss by no. 10 M. Insigne. 2020 champs also suffered a huge setback on-field and lost their main centre back Leonardo Bonnuci who was already booked for a yellow card got another for elbowing Serio Busquets in the face.

Ferran Torres got his name on the scoresheet once again after an excellent Spain move. Alonso played a cross in for Sarabia,  Oyarzabal who dinked a cross towards the back post for Ferran to then head back across goal and into the back of the net. Italy 0-2 Spain. Spain dominated the 1st half by having 63% of possession.

As the 2nd half kicks off, Roberto Mancini subs in Giorgio Chiellini in place of Federico Bernadeschi as captain. Even though all odds were against Italy they were determined to keep their 38 unbeaten streaks to live as they fought till their last breath, competed but were only able to score a goal on a breakaway led by Chiesa who then passes it off to Lorenzo Pellegrini, who tapped in from close range. After all the efforts to keep the unbeaten streak alive for another day, they were defeated by a well-coached Spain team who was hungry to avenge their loss.
