Chelsea won 3-1 at the weekend against Leeds United with goals from Olivier Giroud, Kurt Zouma and Christian Pulisic sealing the victory for the Blues. Patrick Bamford scored for Leeds in the 4th minute but Chelsea quickly got back in the game following a Olivier Giroud equaliser for Chelsea in the 27th minute.
Frank Lampard has been backed by the Chelsea board and has been able to bring in a plethora of talent. The likes of Thiago Silva, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz, Malang Sarr and Ben Chilwell have been a part of players that have arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer. The squad across all departments has depth in quality and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher explained why he thinks the Blues’ squad is on par with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Carragher said, “In these early stages of the season, it looks like they’ve recruited really well. You can make an argument that it’s as strong a squad as anyone in the Premier League.”
“You could maybe argue, or I think it’s a fact, that Liverpool and Man City have a strong XI, but in terms of back-up players right now and other teams getting injuries – certainly Liverpool – that strength of squad is absolutely fantastic and it doesn’t feel like the team would be weakened too much no matter who was playing,” added the former Liverpool defender.
Chelsea travel away to Everton this weekend on Sunday.
