Sevilla, better known as the Europa league conqueror, overcame Manchester United, thanks to the late Goal by Luke De Jong winning 2-1 on the night in Germany advancing to Finals.
The English Team took the lead just 7 minutes in the game with a penalty by Bruno Feranades. Sevilla did respond to the early goal with tidy finish from Suso after 20 minutes. However the deciding goal for the tie was scored by Luke De Jong tapping the ball into the net from a cross by Jesus Navas with just 10 minutes left to play.
This will be the sixth Europa league Finals for the Spanish Club, which is at least two more then any other teams in Europe. They may face Inter Milan or Shaktar Donetsk who are set to play the Semi Finals of the competition. Manchester United captain Harry Maguire after the match said ” the best team lost “.
“They did not create many chances if we’re being honest, its the ball in the box and they worked it well down the right”, he told BT Sports after the game.
The attacking third of United did work hard and were creating problems for the opposition defence but after weathering the storm of United attacks the Sevilla team hit them when they lost their concentration and the simple tap in by substitute luke De Jong was the match winner for the Spanish side. This season will be third in the row for Red Devils in which they have not won any major trophies.
The United boss Ole said after the game, “It’s one of them if you take chances you win comfortably — its not always the case in football”.
“When we get the ball down and create chances, it’s scintillating at times. The keeper had a fantastic game. It’s disappointing we didn’t score because we’ve got players with that quality. We are working to improve ourselves. We’ve had spell of injuries too this season but we always looked to improve.”
