Cristiano Ronaldo was back to what he does best- finding the back of the net with 2 goals in the first half to lead Juventus to a comfortable win over 11th placed Cagliari. This win takes Juventus to 2nd place, although Sassuolo (3rd), Napoli (4th) and Roma (5th) all have a game in hand.
Juventus are still unbeaten in the league, having played 8 games- winning 4 and drawing 4. Considering the Italian club’s standards, manager Andrea Pirlo would have preferred more wins on the board. Nonetheless, this win will instil a lot of confidence into the Juventus players going forward into the season.
Ronaldo scored the first goal in the 38th minute, cutting in and finding space to smash the ball in the bottom right corner from the left angle. The Portuguese forward was quick to extend Juventus’ lead in the 42nd minute from a corner to make it 2-0. Ronaldo showed great awareness to find an angle to score from a tight space off a header from defender Merih Demiral.
Juventus had 24 shots with 6 on target, whereas Cagliari was not able to register a shot on target. Last night’s brace takes Cristiano Ronaldo’s league tally to 8 goals in 5 matches (4 starts). The 5 time Ballon D’or winner is only 10 goals away from becoming the player with the most official goals in football history.
