Barcelona midfield maestro, Sergio Busquets, is expected to bid farewell to the club at the end of the current season. The 2022/23 campaign marks the end of Busquets’ contract with Barcelona, and the midfielder has reportedly decided to explore new opportunities as a free agent.
Busquets, a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth academy, has been a loyal servant to the club for over a decade. He made his debut for the senior team in 2008 under the guidance of Pep Guardiola and quickly established himself as a key figure in the midfield. Since then, he has become an integral part of Barcelona’s success, contributing to numerous domestic and international titles.
However, as with all great journeys, Busquets’ time at Barcelona appears to be drawing to a close. Various reports suggest that the midfielder is ready for a new challenge and desires a change of scenery. After spending his entire professional career at the Camp Nou, it’s understandable that Busquets would want to explore fresh opportunities and test himself in a different environment.
Despite turning 34 years old in July last year, Busquets remains a highly influential player on the pitch. His calmness under pressure and exceptional positional awareness make him one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
