The first half started with Manchester City started with a flyer, only have to miss three sensational goals inside the first 10 minutes as Spur’s defenders and Hugo Lloris did very well to stop them from scoring. It took a while for both sides to get going in the first half as both teams had not had a single shot on target when it was difficult for both to open their account in this huge game. Jao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez and Fernandinho all came close for the visitors, while Son had the best chance for Spurs at the other end, but he couldn’t find the target as it ended 0-0 in the first half.
The second half of the game began with Spurs making efforts to find the back of the net, as they got more shots and created more chances compared to Manchester City. In the 55th minute, Son Heung Min scored, with a beautiful pass given by Lucas Moura to Steven Bergwijn as he raced towards and passed it to Son by curling his shot around Ruben Dias and into the bottom left corner to give Spurs a huge lead against Manchester City. Steven Bergwijn had a moment on the 56th minute as his chance was only fired into the side netting from close range to deny them. Amazing strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and newly signed Jack Grealish was all denied by superb saves from Hugo Lloris as they couldn’t find the back of the net, as it was more than enough for Spurs to win their opening game against Manchester City by 1-0.
Manchester City’s title defence gets off with a losing start with the loss to Spurs, and Leicester in the Community Shield Finals, as Pep Guardiola looks for answers and will be hoping to bounce back as they take a trip to newly-promoted Norwich City next week. Nuno Espirito Santo will reunite against his old club Wolves, in what proves to be a sensational match next week.
