Manchester United has beaten another Premier League side named Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Monday night. It was not a convincing victory for the Red Devils but they somehow managed to progress to the fourth round of the competition. They beat Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa by the only goal to nil at Old Trafford which was a disappointing loss for Aston Villa as they really performed well and deserved Much more than this result.
Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United was again seen sloppy on the ball and there was not a perfect combination and gameplay between players. Rangnick again went with his classic formation 4-2-2-2 for which he was getting trolled after getting his first defeat as Red Devils’ manager against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. He wasn’t defeated this time but the way the team was playing it could have been his second defeat. There was no Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Phil Jones available for this FA Cup tie. The manager told that all these players had a minor muscle problem and thus he didn’t want to take any chances by including them in the team.

The game saw only one goal that came in the 8th minute. Manchester United’s midfielder Scott McTominay was the one who opened the scoring and closed it as well as it was also the last goal of the game. It was Fred’s delivery into the box which reaches McTominay and he directs his header in a right place to give United the lead. Since that goal, Aston Villa was playing well and they were looking more dangerous on ball still Steven Gerrard’s men weren’t able to find the net. Aston Villa did find the net in the second half but that was overruled by VAR as Jacob Ramsey made a bad foul on Man United’s forward Edinson Cavani. Villa’s striker Ollie Watkins found the net but this time the goal was ruled out for offside by the linesman.

Thus, McTominay’s only goal was enough for Man United to send Aston Villa out and progress into the next stage of the competition. Now, Ralf Rangnick’s men will face Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
