Inter Milan CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, has confirmed that Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku will be returning to Chelsea after his loan spell with the Italian club ends in the summer of 2023.
Lukaku was signed by Chelsea as a teenager back in 2011, but he failed to make a significant impact in the first team and was eventually sold to Everton in 2014. However, he has since established himself as one of the best strikers in world football, scoring goals regularly for Everton, Manchester United, and most recently, Inter Milan.
The 28-year-old joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €80 million and immediately became a key player for the club. In his first season, Lukaku scored 34 goals in all competitions as Inter won the Serie A title for the first time in over a decade.
Despite his success at Inter, it appears that Lukaku will be returning to Chelsea in the summer of 2023. Marotta confirmed the news in an interview with Italian radio station Rai Sport, stating that the decision was made because Lukaku has a strong emotional bond with Chelsea and their supporters.
The news will come as a huge boost to Chelsea fans, who have been crying out for a prolific striker in recent years. Lukaku has already proven himself in the Premier League.
