Attacking midfielder Isco Alarcon and defender David Alaba has tested positive for COVID-19 and increased the number of players from Real Madrid’s list of the ones contracting the virus.
The Los Blancos confirmed this news on their official site saying, ” Real Madrid C.F. confirm our players Isco and David Alaba have tested positive for COVID-19.” The La Liga club has now a total of eight players including the Spaniard Isco and Australian Alaba, who are isolated because of the virus. The other six players are Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo, Luka Modric and Marcelo. Their assistant coach Davide Ancelotti is also quarantined following recovery from the virus. Davide is the son of the club’s boss Carlo Ancelotti who is his second spell as a manager to the 13 times UEFA Champions League winners.
The Whites will play their next match against Athletic Bilbao, the league game which is scheduled for Wednesday. According to the policies of the league, there must be at least 13 players among which, five must be from A team and a goalkeeper for a club to proceed with the game. The players who are vaccinated can go back to the squad as soon as they test negative for COVID-19.
Real Madrid is at the top of the table of La Liga with 43 points in 18 games followed by Sevilla FC with 38 points. Rivals Barcelona are at 7th position on the table with 28 points in 18 games.
