No.1 position in the La Liga Real Madrid took on the no.8 rebuilding Barcelona. El Clasico has always been one of the biggest match in football history, even without Ronaldo and Messi this rivalry still lives on.
In the first half Real Madrid seems to be in more control, they were always on the attack, got out on every counter-attack, they even kept more possession than Barcelona 51/49. They were finally able to put themselves in the lead when Alaba dispossessed Depay and then Vinicius lays it to Rodrygo upfield and then passes to the man who started the counter Alaba who shoos it into the top right corner. Alaba became the 5th player ever to score on his debut in El Classico joining the list of Ronaldo Nazario, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Raphael Varane, and Jese Rodriguez.
2nd half was no different Real Madrid again controlled it with shots and possessions, Madrid had quite many tries at the goal but could not finish it. They mostly looked to slow down the pace so they can keep the possession while winning comfortably. The game took an interesting turn of events when 2 goals were scored in 90+ minutes. Madrid iced the game with 90+4th minutes Vazquez who sweeps in to score Madrid’s 2nd goal. Meanwhile, for Barcelona, there was light at the end of the tunnel as even in a loss they saw the new signed Sergio Aguero back in the game with an impact on the offense, he contributed with a volley at 97th minute to at least open the scoreline for Barcelona. Even with the loss, Barcelona’s future looks bright in the hands of their young stars like Gavi, Coutinho.
