Real Madrid beat Alaves 3-0 to extend their La Liga lead

Asensio, Vinicius and Benzema power the Whites for an improved second half against Alaves after struggling in first.

The table-toppers extend their La Liga lead by netting three goals and conceding none against Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu. They are now seven points ahead of Sevilla.

After a goalless first half where Real Madrid struggled and the visitors defended well, Spain’s Marco Asensio opened to give the lead by netting at the 63rd minute of the game followed by two others, Vinicius Jr at 80′ and Karim Benzema in the extra time to end with three for the Los Blancos at a home game.

A much-needed win after their previous clash against French side Paris Saint-Germain, where the 13 times Champions League winners were lost by Kylian Mbappe’s late winner. The loss arose a debate between the fans doubting boss Carlo Ancelotti’s lack of rotation or tactical disconnection in the squad and the fear of letting the title slip despite being on top of the table.

Coming back from an injury, Frenchman Benzema looked 100% fit and was back on the scoresheet. Fede Valverde was used for the midfield while Eden Hazard proceeded on the bench. The victory after a better second half could be a necessary one that can comfort them bring back their form and confidence.

The Whites will next play against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, 26 February at 11:00 pm IST.
