Manchester United’s boss Ralf Rangnick who recently signed a contract with the Premier League side for the Interim role till next season doesn’t seem happy with the idea of keeping two domestic leagues i.e. League Cup (Carabao Cup) and FA Cup in the same calendar year. He feels that there should be only one league cup in a single year just like the other country’s leagues. Rangnick also feels that playing two League Cup games in a single year gives more stress to the players and they do not get a proper time and rest to prepare for the other important and big league games like Champions League and Premier League.
“England is the only top league that plays two cup competitions. In France, they abolished the second one a year or two ago, we are the only country that plays two cup competitions.” Ralf Rangnick told reporters on Thursday in the press conference as reported by TOI.
Manchester United’s interim manager thinks that either FA Cup or Carabao Cup should be conducted in a single year so that players can get proper rest and it can also avoid injuries a bit. Manchester United is out of the Carabao Cup this season as they lost to David Moyes’ in form West Ham in the third round of the competition. It was not a good display of performance by the United players and thus had to face the defeat. This week, some Premier League sides played their quarter-final games. Liverpool won in penalties against Leicester City, and West Ham faced a defeat against Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea also got qualified for the Semifinal stage of the competition.
Rangnick’s men are in the FA Cup where they are due to play against Aston Villa in the third round which will be on 11th January 2022. Manchester United is looking for some trophies this season and this FA Cup will surely be in the manager’s and players’ minds.
