Ralf Rangnick faces first defeat as Man United’s boss as the Red Devils lost to Wolves

Manchester United had the chance to go to top 6 but they remain at 7th place as they were defeated by Bruno Lage’s side on Monday by 1-0.

Manchester United faced a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. It was Ralf Rangnick’s first defeat as Man United’s manager since his appointment. Bruno Lage’s side clearly deserved the win the way the visitors played the game.

Manchester United was poor in the first half and Wolverhampton Wanderers was the team that came out to be on top in the half as they created more chances, they had more chances and also the visitors had more shots on Man United’s goal in this half. Ralf Rangnick’s side was lucky that the Wolves didn’t score in the first half because they really had some great scoring chances but some decent saves by David de Gea helped the host keep the scoreline 0-0 in the half-time. Also, there was some amazing defensive display from Phil Jones who was playing his first game for Manchester United since January 2020.

The start of the second half was good for the Red Devils but they didn’t take advantage of that. The home side was sloppy a bit which gave a chance to the visitors to be stable again in the game. Bruno Fernandes had the best chance of scoring minutes after he came off from the bench, but his shot hits the upper post. At last, in the 82nd minute, Joao Moutinho scored the opening goal which was also the last one of the game. It was Wolves’ winger Adama Traore’s cross inside the box which was not properly dealt by Phil Jones, that resulted in a goal from the Portuguese. Wolves won at Old Trafford after nearly 40 years and it is nothing wrong to say that they deserved this victory as they really were top of their game on Monday.
