Football Club Barcelona registered their first victory under their new Boss Xavi Hernandez on Saturday. Although it was not as clinical of a win as Barcelona fans and critics would have liked, it was a win nonetheless. This victory has brought a mountain of expectations from the new boss to change the team’s fortunes. And turn them from zero to hero in a single campaign.
Talking about the same, former Barcelona player, Carles Puyol said that Xavi needs to be given time with the club. Puyol believes that his ex-teammate has prepared himself for the job and is the right person to handle the team in this tumultuous time. Lauding Xavi’s experience as a player, Puyol added, “He has experienced great moments as a player where we had difficult situations… we had not won anything, and then we won everything by playing very good football. So he knows exactly what t do, and you have to give him time and confidence,” reports Reuters.
Xavi spent 17 years at Barcelona and won around 25 trophies in total. So there is no doubt in the fact that he is a living legend of the club. And his time at the club as a player showed what a great leader he was; hence there are high chances that he will transform those qualities into his players and marshal them to a great victory in coming matches.
After defeating Espanyol, Barcelona will take on the Benfica challenge in the midweek as they look to continue their good run of two victories in UCL. They will also require to win this game to remain relevant in the competition and make it to the next round.
