Tottenham’s statement confirms Emerson Royal’s injury. The club states, “we can confirm that Emerson Royal suffered a meniscus injury in his left knee while playing for the Brazilian national team last week. The defender will undergo surgery before rehab with our medical team.” During the stoppage time of Brazil’s 2-1 friendly defeat by Morocco on Saturday, he suffered an injury in the final moments of his 90-minute.

The 24-year-old has had a successful season at Tottenham, bouncing back from criticism over his performance to play some of his best football for the club. In 32 appearances this season, Emerson has scored two goals. As a result, he was recalled to the Brazilian team.
In addition to Emerson, Tottenham has several other injured players, some of whom are close to returning and others who will be out for some time. Richarlison and Hugo Lloris are expected to return soon. Bissouma and Ben Davies are still recovering. They may return before the end of the season. Rodrigo Bentancur and Emerson Royal suffer from severe knee injuries and may be unable to return before 2023.
