After Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, Manchester United players held a meeting without their manager, Erik ten Hag, in attendance. The following statement was made by Luke Shaw, who brutally assessed his team.
“I’m not going to go too much into that, but the players chatted in the changing room after with no staff around. Because it’s down to us players on the pitch, and it was nowhere near good enough. We had to speak out in front of each other,” Luke Shaw told Sky Sports.
Luke Shaw continued saying Manchester United’s poor performance was rugged to the stomach, especially after the international break.
“Not what we wanted. Not what we expected. It will be a tough day when you come here to a tough stadium with a perfect side and don’t come with the right attitude and hunger. That showed today. We deserve to lose.
“The whole team had a bit of rest. Our levels had dropped; that was clear to see. Coming in today, we felt good and ready for the game. The whistle goes, and it’s the opposite of what we’ve been doing in training. Unacceptable,” Shaw added.
