Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the North London club announced on Tuesday on the transfer deadline day to sign for Barcelona as a free agent.
The 32-year-old Gabon International was seen visible in the Barcelona training ground posted on different social media sites. The former Gunners captain arrived in Spain on Monday just ahead of the end of the transfer deadline day of the January transfer window. But both parties did not announce the deal before the deadline. Arsenal released him as he became eligible to sign for any club outside the transfer window as he was a free agent.
“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club by mutual agreement,” the north London club said in a statement that was released. He has not made an appearance in the arsenal kit since being sidelined for a disciplinary reason by the club since December. He was among the top-paid players in the Premier League with a package of 250,000 pounds for a week.
The Gabon star joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund on the transfer deadline day of the January transfer window in 2018 for 56 million pounds which was a club-record fee for any player at that time. He made 165 appearances and scored 92 goals in the arsenal kit since he moved to the north London club exactly 4 years ago.
Gunners delayed the announcement of Gabon star’s departure as a gesture of respect to Barcelona, whose president Joan Laporta said on Tuesday that the official announcement may come later in the week.
