Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he will leave the club after the end of his contract to take a break and get into international football, after that.
On Wednesday, Guardiola was taking in an event for Brazilian investors. He was asked what will be his next step, to which his reply was to manage a national team. He said that after his contract ends in 2023 and will take a break and will rest after being somewhere for so many years. He added that he will want to stop and reevaluate what he has done and try to learn from other managers, as well. He expanded that during this period if he gets to manage a national team, he will take that opportunity. He would like to manage a national team in the European Championship, the Copa America or the World Cup and wants to experience that phase of management.
This is Guardiola’s sixth season managing Manchester City. He has taken the club to a new level. City under Pep has won three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shield plates. He has made the club into a domestic and European powerhouse but the UEFA Champions League has eluded him since winning it in Barcelona. He was very close to winning it this year, as they were in the finals but they got pipped by Chelsea. He has won three La Liga titles with Barcelona too, along with two Champions League trophies. He managed Bayern too where he won the same number of Bundesliga titles.
As a player, he won six La Liga trophies for FC Barcelona and one solitary European Cup in 1992. He also played 47 matches for the Spanish National Team, scoring 5 goals.
