The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saga has almost reached its end. The club has decided to relieve the Norwegian manager of his post as the Manager of Manchester United, reports Marca. This decision is followed by the continuous dismal performance of the Manchester-based club across all competitions.
United management under the wing of Solskjaer made some big signings such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Varane, and Jordan Sancho. With these signings, they were considered as one of the formidable teams in the Premier League. The results, however, still did not go in their favor. Instead, they lost to teams like Aston Villa and Wolves in the Premier League and Young Boys in the Champions League. They have lost 4 out of their 5 Premier League matches and are 7th on the points table with just 17 points to their name in 12 games.
The speculations about Soskjaer’s sacking began when United lost 2-1 to Young Boys, despite being in front of the game for the most time. Later they were also handed a defeat in the EFL Cup round-3 by the hands of West Ham, which ended their campaign in the Carabao cup. From there onwards, it was a slippery slope for Manchester United as they couldn’t quite get a grip of the season. It seemed inevitable that Solskjaer would lose his job after a humiliating loss against their arch-rival Manchester City. However, the Glazers family still showed some faith in him and decided to give him an extended run.
After the 4-1 loss against Watford, Marca reports that Manchester United’s Board of directors called for an emergency meeting to decide or instead seal Ole’s future at the club. Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Solskjaer will not continue as Manchester United’s manager and will be replaced by Darren Fletcher as the interim coach. The official announcement by the club is yet to be made as everyone waits for the verdict of Joel Glazer, who will have the final word on the decision to go through.
