Sergio Busquets, one of Barcelona’s most iconic and influential players, has announced his departure from the club as a free agent on June 30, 2023. This season will mark Busquets’ final campaign in a Barcelona shirt, bringing an end to an era of exceptional midfield dominance at Camp Nou.
Rising through the ranks, he quickly displayed his exceptional footballing abilities and was eventually promoted to the first team in 2008 under the guidance of manager (then) Pep Guardiola.
Busquets became an indispensable figure in Barcelona’s midfield, epitomizing the club’s renowned possession-based style of play. With his passing, positional sense, and tactical intelligence, he formed a formidable partnership with the likes of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, forging one of the most dominant midfields in football history.
Throughout his career at Barcelona, Busquets has enjoyed incredible success, winning numerous domestic and international titles. He has helped the club secure 8 La Liga titles, 6 Copa del Rey trophies, and lifted the prestigious UEFA Champions League trophy on four occasions. In addition, he has been a part of the Spanish national team’s triumphs in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship in 2012.
