Portugal national football team have signed a new manager named Roberto Martinez. The Former Belgium manager signed his contract with Portugal on Monday afternoon, 9th January. It was earlier reported by Italian football journalist named Fabrizio Romano via his Twitter that Portugal are looking for more options and they made Roberto Martinez as their priority.
The former Belgium national football team manager did an exceptional job for them as they were in the first place in FIFA Rankings for a long time. However their FIFA World Cup journey wasn’t much impressive as they couldn’t manage to go to the round of 16 of the competition.
Belgium played well under him but after their failure in FIFA World Cup 2022, he got sacked from the role. Portugal feels Martinez is the right option for them after they also sacked their manager named Fernando Santos recently.
“I am delighted to be able to represent one of the most talented teams in the world. I understand there are great expectations but I also understand there is a very large team (at the FFF) and together we will achieve our goals,” said Roberto Martinez as said in a statement released by Portuguese Football Federation.
