Fernando Santos officially left the Portugal national football team on Thursday, 15th December. The Portugal football team has confirmed this news of Fernando Santos on their official website. This was not shocking news for the Portuguese fans as they knew that this was going to happen after the World Cup’s exit.
Portugal got defeated by Morocco in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022. They couldn’t score a single goal in the game despite creating a lot of chances and keeping a lot of possession. Morocco scored in the first half from a mistake by a Portuguese goalkeeper named Diogo Costa. After the disappointing loss, Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo was seen crying.
This was Cristiano Ronaldo’s last FIFA World Cup and thus he wasn’t happy to see his team get out in the quarter-finals.
“In addition to the titles won, Fernando Santos became the coach with the most games and most victories. It was an honor to have a coach and a person like Fernando Santos as the head of the national team,” The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said in their official statement.
