Official: Paris Saint-Germain sack head coach Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier set to replace

The Argentine will be leaving the duties at the club after taking over for just 18 months.

French Giants PSG has officially announced the departure of their head coach Mauricio Pochettino from the club. The Argentine will be stripped of his coaching duties after being at the club for just 18 months. The 50-year-old did not beneficially impact the team. His domestic success was not the only expected title triumph expected from such a major team which consists of Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar.

Pochettino had won some domestic trophies during his stay in the city of Paris. He was appointed as the head coach of Paris Saint- Germain in 2021 following the exit of Thomas Tuchel. Over time, he won the Coupe De France in 2021. But had failed to win the Ligue 1 finishing 2nd in the French league behind Lille. But in the 2021-22 season, he took PSG to win the Ligue 1 for the first time in his managerial career.

Although his reason for being sacked is not clarified by the club, it is understood that the club’s failure in the Champions League campaign would have been the major reason. The star-studded team filled with Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar did not manage to win the Champions League under him. In the 2021-22 Champions League campaign, the French Giants were defeated by the eventual winner Real Madrid. All of this would have been the major reason for him to get sacked by the board of PSG.

His departure from the club was already decided by the first week of June but it has been officially announced by the club now. As per Fabrizio Romano and other sources, Christophe Galtier is set to replace him as the new head coach of the club.
