The Argentine captain Lionel Messi’s contract with Barcelona has come to an end at midnight as he failed to perpetrate to an extension. One of the world’s greatest footballer is now a free agent and officially no longer a player of the La Liga club, Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romanio, the Italian journalist and football transfer specialist had confirmed regarding player’s contract situation and said that Messi will extend his contract with the Spanish club until June 2023. No party that are involved has no uncertainty about it. The reason for no official announcement about the contract extension was that there are some unfinished sections to be settled in the agreement and it’s just a matter of time.

Spanish football writer Guillem Balague had said before, this week that Barcelona had “raised the level of urgency” in contract talks, with the believe of making an announcement of a new two-year deal before July starts.
Lionel Messi’s agreement renewal is now president Joan Laporta’s main priority. The club will have to reduce their wage bill around 200m euros to meet LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play requirements.
