Barcelona confirms the signing of Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen on a free transfer. The 26-year-old failed to renew their contract with Chelsea last season and eventually became a free agent. His moving to Barcelona was already rumoured ever since he had failed to renew the contract with Chelsea and now it has been officially declared. The length of the contract will be a four-year deal till the summer of 2026. That is quite a long time for the player to get adjusted to the club and the new environment.
Christensen had joined Chelsea in 2012 on a free transfer. He then played till 2015 then got loaned to Bundesliga where he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach for two years. Then he returned to the club for the 2017-18 Premier League season. He has made 160 appearances for Chelsea. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he has won many great trophies like the League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Cup.
The 26-year-old made his international debut for Denmark in 2015 and has played a total of 57 games for them. His experience at a very young age will be very useful to the Blaugranas. The ageing Gerard Pique will be entering his final few seasons with the club and this signing will prove crucial for them in the coming years. Barcelona is trying their maximum to become the team they once used to be. They are also trying to sign the Brazilian winger Raphinha and Polish striker Lewandowski to bolster the team overall.
