Nike has ended their relationship with Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, the sportswear giant said on Monday after allegations were put online that he had assaulted a woman.
Mason Will John Greenwood is a 20-year-old English footballer. He plays as a forward for Premier League club, Manchester United.
On Sunday, United said that they were aware of images and allegations spreading on social media and later confirms Greenwood wouldn’t come back to the training or play for the Old Trafford club until further notice.
“We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation”, Nike spokesperson said to Reuters.
The allegations against Greenwood, including the video, photographs, and voice note were posted on Instagram on Sunday and later on, it was deleted.
Greater Manchester Police said that a man was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault and was held in custody for questioning after a woman posted images and videos, reporting incidents of physical violence.
The police said on Monday that the detectives were given additional time to speak to a man in his 20’s. They further said that they have arrested the suspect on Sunday, 30 January during the afternoon, and remains in custody.
