Nemanja Matic announces he will leave Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder has announced that he will quit the club at the end of the season.

Manchester United’s defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic has stated that he will leave the club after the season.

When Matic, 33, signed his previous contract in July 2020, United said that it would run until 2023, but it has now been revealed that this was an error and that Matic’s contract was for a minimum of two years, with the option of a third year. Rather than having his extension triggered, Matic has exercised his right to end his United career after two years.

The 33-year-old Serbian midfielder informed the board and everyone associated with the first team of his choice before making the big news on social media.  Matic spoke about the honour of playing for a club like United and expresses gratitude to the supporters for their continued support.

Unfortunately, unlike his tenure at Chelsea, Matic was not able to lift the Premier League trophy with the Red Devils. He was a fantastic player, but it was evident that by the time Jose Mourinho brought him to United, he had passed his prime.

In a short statement on Instagram, Matic stated: “After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision. “It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support. “I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”
