Wrexham have signed former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster on a free transfer. Having lost first-choice shot-stopper Rob Lainton to an injury for six weeks, the National League club has been forced to find a new goalkeeper. A 39-year-old former Watford player has joined Wrexham after hanging up his boots in September 2022. At the beginning of his career, Foster spent a period on loan at Wrexham while on Stoke City’s books. On Thursday, he expressed his excitement upon returning to the Racecourse Ground.
He said, “If you’d told me 18 years ago that I would have the career I have had, I probably wouldn’t have believed you, to be honest, so I owe a lot to Wrexham.”
Foster made 17 appearances in his first spell at Wrexham and played a crucial role in their 2005 Football League Trophy success before joining Manchester United. The shot-stopper also played for Birmingham City and West Brom while winning eight caps for England at the international level.
