Nacho signs contract extension with Real Madrid

Nacho has made 233 appearances for the La Liga club so far.

Spanish defender Nacho Fernandez extended his Real Madrid contract on Thursday. “Real Madrid CF and Nacho Fernandez have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract in a deal that ties him to the club for the next two seasons and until June 30, 2023,” read an official statement of Real Madrid.

As previously reported, Nacho’s contract with the club was past the 2022 expiration date, but the agreement has been extended by 12 months. The midfielder has made 233 appearances for the club over his time there, winning two La Liga titles and four Champions League titles.

Real Madrid failed to retain the La Liga title, as their bitter city rivals Atletico Madrid won the 2020/21 La Liga title. The race for the league title went down to the last day with the teams separated by a point, however, Atletico secured the title.

Zinedine Zidane resigned as the coach of the club at the end of Real Madrid’s campaign. Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as the new manager in a sudden turn of events as he unexpectedly left his manager role at Everton to return for a second stint back at Real Madrid.

With Raphael Varane’s future at the La Liga giants in doubt as the French international gets closely linked with a move to Manchester United, the 31-year-old Nacho has agreed to prolong his association with the Blancos, with a home-grown talent remaining a one-club man.
