Morocco defeated Brazil impressively in an international friendly held in Tangiers. Sofiane Boufal and Abdelhamid Sabiri scored goals for the Atlas Lions in their 2-1 win over the Selecao.
Boufal’s classy goal gave the Moroccans the lead in the first half. Brazilian goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a rare mistake in the second half, resulting in Brazil’s equalization. Bounou did not hold Casemiro’s shot. In the 79th minute, Morocco proved their determination by scoring the winner through Sabiri.
Although Morocco’s victory was unexpected, the team had already proved their mettle by reaching the semifinals of the World Cup, which was the first time an African team had reached that stage.
On the other hand, the Brazilian team lost to Croatia on penalties in the quarterfinals. Several key players, including Neymar, were absent from the Selecao during the friendly match. However, the team was still expected to perform better against the Moroccans.
Brazil is moving through a transitional period, with head coach Tite departing after six years. In February, Brazil’s U-20 team won the South American championship under Ramon Menezes.
