Cristiano Ronaldo has been under fire for his controversial behavior while playing for his club and nation, and former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has defended the striker.
Ronaldo differed with Fernando Santos after his contract with Manchester United was mutually terminated last month, and he was benched for the national team’s World Cup match against Switzerland. For his recent acts, the 37-year-old has drawn criticism from managers, supporters, and analysts alike, but Ozil has supported his former teammate, saying those who criticise Ronaldo only ‘want to get attention’. Ozil has come in support of his former teammate at Real Madrid. The German international on his official social media inscribed a post for Ronaldo.
Before joining Arsenal in 2013, Ozil, who is presently playing for the Turkish club Istanbul Başakşehir, played alongside Ronaldo for four years.
