Former Borussia Dortmund’s defender Mats Hummels who decided that he won’t be playing for the club after the end of the 2023/24 season is close to securing a move to Serie A side AS Roma. This move was very surprising as the free agent received an improved offer from the Italian side. The club has booked his medical already and are waiting for his final confirmation.
Mats Hummels, the experienced defender who has been an important part for Borussia Dortmund, is on the verge of making a surprising move to AS Roma. The 2023/24 season will be Hummels’ last with Dortmund, as the German international has decided not to renew his contract with the club.
As a free agent, Hummels attracted interest from several top clubs, but it is AS Roma who have made the most compelling offer. The Italian side, managed by José Mourinho, has reportedly tabled an improved contract proposal that has all but secured Hummels’ signature. Despite speculation about his future, the decision to join Roma has surprised many, given his strong ties to the Bundesliga.
The transfer has progressed quickly, with Roma already booking a medical for the 35-year-old defender, who has over 400 appearances for Dortmund.
